The Evening with Volodin

One of the main successes of the new Dolgachev’s play is, perhaps, its peculiar sound. You can always hear the harmonic melody, however made with the very different «notes». These notes are the serious respect to the text and to the style of the author. These are the ironical but kind notes, a kind of inevitable soviet retro. This soft irony is something of the time shifting dialogue, where the forms change, but the meaning remains the same. The comedy notes of many characters (from the main ones to the episodic officials from the children’s home) take away the straightforwardness of the drama, making it the usual life story, where there is place not only for the tears, but for the everyday joys.

At the same time the director together with the art designer Margarita Demyanova make this common situation a little theatrical, well-rehearsed, but light as a dance.
