О спектакле

The film version of the play brought Ingmar Bergman international success and the Palme d’Or of Cannes Festival. But the famous film director and playwright rarely allowed to stage his plays in theatre. The interdiction included the «Smiles of a Summer Night». Vyacheslav Dolgachev thought of performing it 16 years ago, while working at Bergman’s «After the Rehearsal» in A. P. Chekhov’s MHAT where Sergey Yursky and Natalya Tenyakova played. Bergman warmly congratulated director and actors, but nevertheless the approval was gained only after his death.

A tender and tempting like a worm summer night, a romantic comedy with a wonderful aftertaste. The light performance of the love that makes people breath. The love that makes life meaningful. The love that is makes all ages to surrender. That doesn’t know the social boundaries.

The relations in a family that seems ordinary and respectable. Although there are details, and if you look into the master’s bedroom, you can see many interesting and curious peculiarities... It could be left so as it was, but the Nature tends to make its own harmony in relations between men and women.

The summer night smile three times to the lovers... What are those smiles? The answer is in the play.
