The mirror

The artistic director of the New Drama Theatre Vyacheslav Dolgachev likes to play with the time. He is able to turn what seems archaic into new and actual, and to put the present events in the general context of the epoch. The «Mothers and Daughters» by Alexander Volodin is the proof of it.

There are many details of the previous epoch in the text of the play (it was written in 1970-s). The straightforwardness of Olga, so understandable in the epoch of party meetings and communist slogans, seems so funny now, but the director treats it with soft irony and makes the audience think about the essence of the problems in the Volodin’s play.
