The Trial

Dolgachev’s production of «The Trial» is a brief, clear and precise play. It lasts two and a half hours, and they are perceived as an hour and twenty minutes. As for the intonation… it sounds like a short phrase in the middle of the talk, the phrase of an offended man who got through his grievance, his first burst of temper are gone, but the bitterness remains. A modest bitterness without strain and fuss, when the tears are long shed, but the memory of an injustice is buried deep inside and goes out in spite of all the attempts to suppress it. Isn’t it the reflection of a modern social situation, although slightly veiled?
