One of the Last Carnival Evenings (12+)

The New Theatre’s performance «One of the Last Carnival Evenings» was dedicated to 300 years from the birthday of Italian comedy playwright, the author of 250 comedies, among them «The Mistress of the Inn» and «The Servant of Two Masters». The play was translated into Russian specially for Vyacheslav Dolgachev, who was the first to stage it in Russia. The visitors of Goldoni’s Museum in Venice can now watch the photos from this performance.

If you have never been to Italy and have never seen the real Venetian Carnival you should bridge this gap and visit one of its evenings ... yes, in the theatre! It is the excellent opportunity to become an eyewitness of the character’s intrigues and love affairs, to adore the magnificent costumes, the exquisite carnival masks and the most mysterious comedy of great Goldoni.

«One of the Last Carnival Evenings» is a farewell Goldoni’s play. It was staged in 1762 when the playwright yielded to another genius, Carlo Gozzi, and left the Venice to Paris for good. Goldoni was absolutely dismayed and wondered if he would ever come back to his hometown.

The young hero of the carnival plot is Anzoletto the artist, who is also in dismay, because he is leaving his hometown too. Only he is going not to Paris but to the faraway mysterious Moscovia. He bids farewell to his friends, he grievs over the future separation, but he cannot to refuse the voyage; he is driven by his creative ambitions. He want his lover Domenica to go with him. But she cannot leave alone her old father, merchant Zamaria.

They would go to Moscovia anyway, however not alone but with another pair.

The final happiness of the heroes is emphasized with a lively dance.
