What was the cause for the horrible witch trials in the town of Salem? Was it mere a desire of teenager girls to free from their parents’ influences and their night dances around a fire in the forest? Was it an excessive devotion of local population or the quarrels in the parish? Or the attempt of some adventurous people to take the property of accused and executed ones? Or was it just a personal revenge? All these dark instincts could have been kept inside and not have been turned into the horrible bloodshed of the innocent if a certain event in the house of John Proctor had not taken place seven months ago, the event that cancelled the happy family life of John and Elisabeth Proctors and made him make the painful journey to himself in order to acknowledge not only his guilt but also the unique possibility to atone his sin.
